Fall Color

orange winter berries

Winter Berries at Nichols Arboretum

It had been a long time since I ventured out to take photographs on my own.  Before we had Ike, I used to go out with my camera around my neck all the time.  But after Ike?  It was mostly at-home pictures of Ike.

On Sunday afternoon, I went out during his nap and what a joy it was.  I should have done that a long time ago.  See the rest of my photos here.

So, what did I learn about macro photography?  I should probably use a tripod next time.  Also, a magic wand to make the wind stop blowing.  And figuring out RAW so that I have more control over colors wouldn’t hurt, either.  That’s actually my next project.  Stay tuned!

  1. Beautiful colors. Love this shot.

  2. Great shot. Good for you for getting back into shooting. I love macro photography. There’s nothing quite like it.

    I love the colors here.

I know what you mean about photography after motherhood. And I second everything you said about macro.

  5. The berries are so vivid….fabulous colors! It’s a wonderful macro shot. I LOVE macro, too.

  6. I too want to learn how to shoot and edit in RAW but I definitely don’t have enough memory on either computer to be doing that yet. It’s so nice to be able to go out by yourself and do something you love without the kids around – not always easy to do but so worth the effort!

  7. As for your question about my Fuji Finepix F100….I don’t know about the one you referenced; I bought this when the photo workshop instructor recommended it. She said it was the best in low-light conditions she had ever found.

  12. Great shots! I agree, the wind is definitely a challenge when shooting macro. I don’t think I’ve had a day in the last few weeks without it!

    The colours are gorgeous!

I think the wind is probably my greatest enemy when I try to take nature macros.

  19. Amazing shot – love the colors! It would make a great canvas print.
